So, this book - wow... not so much actual Arbatel related outside of using the Olympic names and sigils.

Could have more accurately been titled "I get high and think about weird stuff while writing bad poetry"

About the Author
Robert I. Vasholz is Professor Emeritus of Old Testament at Covenant Theological Seminary in St Louis, Missouri. Though Dr. Valshoz retired in 2007, he continues to serve God's people through his teaching, preaching and publishing projects.

A Great Resource

If you are in a church that is in the practice of the pastor pronouncing a benediction (which is not a closing prayer called a benediction, but a real blessing) to the people as the church goes from corporate worship to the "mission field," I highly reccomend this small book for a pastor, or anyone for that matter, to read the rich promises in Scripture that God gives his people.

My former Hebrew Professor, Dr. Robert Vasholz, put together 109 different benedictions that draw from Scriptural promises to be used in corporate worship. I think the real upshot to some of the benedictions are the way he combined portions of Old Testament scriptures with New Testament scriptures and they work well together in such a way that you are reminded of God's love for his people throughout the ages.

Here is an example of one particular benediction:

May the Lord of Hosts be with you

So that you will become greater and greater still,

Until you recieve that crown of life

Which the Lord has prepared for those that love Him.

2 Sam 5:10 & James 1:12 (pp 48)

He also combines OT with OT, single verses that are not often used as benedictions and aditionally Scripture combined with great lyrics of hymns and poems from Christian history. The language is such that it provides a depth and richness to understanding and recieving God's blessing at the close of corporate worship. And it certainly gives pastors a greater breadth of material than the standard Aaronic Benediction and the three or four which are typically used from the New Testament. Instead of a congregation hearing the same benedictions month by month until they run the risk of being "vain" in their repetition; the pastor has a resource for over two years without a repeat!

Great resource, just one flaw

This book is an excellent resource for any pastor and very helpful. It has one flaw: no index. Each one comes from a particular Scripture (or several Scriptures) and it would have been really, really nice if this book had an index so you could jump directly to a benediction without having to flip through them all to look for a particular Scripture. Still a great resource overall though.

original was great , I don't know what this revision adds

I agree with the other reviewer that this text is a classical by Erich Lehmann. It is great that this book which has been out of print for many years is back in print with a new publisher. There is a lot of wisdom conveyed in this book along with very useful nonparametric methods that stand the test of time. I cannot comment on the publication quality of the reprinted edition as I still have (in excellent condition) my copy of the original 1975 publication that was published by Holden-Day.
Lehmann always writes eloquently and his treatment is always authoritative and accurate. However, most of his texts are advanced theoretical books for graduate students in statistics. This one is very different. As he says in his preface, "The purpose of this book is to provide an introduction to nonparametric methods for the analysis and planning of comparative studies." As such he has written it for practitioners. It is filled with illustrative examples of the techniques and intuitive descriptions. There is some mathematics and many exercises at the end of the chapters, but it is intended as a reference text as well as a text for an introductory course. He is very successful in this endeavor.

I have found it very useful over the years and still use it as a reference. In fact, I am sometimes asked as a consultant what procedures are available to test for trends in data. When a nonparametric approach appears warranted, I often refer them to Chapter 7 in this book. It gives a wonderful treatment of tests for independence and provides insight into the tests that are powerful against the alternative hypothesis of a trend over time.

A classic printed and binded like a ... cheap novel

This absolute classic is out of print for decades. I was so excited that Prentice Hall reprinted it in 1998 in paperback. It is disturbing that the publisher treated it like a ... cheap novel. This paperback is binded and printed in the worst quality possible that it [may] fall apart in two weeks.

Not really for the TRUE math geek, but still a good read

I received a complimentary advanced copy, and while I wasn't particularly interested in it, my husband said that he found it to be an enjoyable read. The book is full of 2-3 page vignettes that only take a few minutes to read (which makes this, according to my husband, an excellent book for the bathroom!). He reported the true math geeks would likely already know most of the interesting facts shared in the book, but the more casual nerd would probably like it quite a bit.

Dethier is a Research Associate Professor in the Biology Department at the University of Washington and is in residence at the Friday Harbor Laboratories.

About the Author
Maureen Burton received a BA from the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1971, an MA from California State University, Fullerton, in 1979, and a Ph.D.from the University of California at Riverside in 1986. All were in economics. She taught at Chaffey College from 1984 to 1987 and at Cal Poly Pomona since 1987 where she is a full professor, has been Coordinator of the Graduate Program, and is currently chair of the Economics Department. In addition to other publications, she co-authored an introductory text Economics (Harper Collins, 1987) with S. Craig Justice. Her main areas of research include monetary theory and financial markets.

Born in Hamden, Connecticut, Ray Lombra received a BA in Economics from Providence College in 1967 and an MA and Ph.D. from Penn State University in 1971. He served as a senior staff economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System from 1971-1977 and specialized in financial markets analysis and the formulation and implementation of monetary policy. He joined the faculty of Penn State University in 1977, and has taught money and banking at the undergraduate level and monetary theory and policy at the graduate level for 23 years. He is a winner of the College distinguished teaching award for innovations and instruction and is the author and editor of 5 books and over 80 scholarly publications. Articles on monetary policy, the determination of interest rates, stock prices, and exchange rates, financial innovation, globalization, and expectations formation have appeared in leading journals, including the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, the Journal of Monetary Economics, and the Review of Economics and Statistics.

It's not a bad book but not a great one either

It's not a bad book but not a great one either. A fairly decent book. I liked Nison's more and i believe it is better to start with that one. If, after reading that one, you feel the need to read something more concerning this subject, candlesticks, than you can choose this one. Other than a supplement i do not believe the book has a purpose.

Very good for candles

Good intro to candlestick bar trading , the first chapters are good, they give you an overview of major signals , especially the second chapter it's really good . Later you also have a good couple of chapters with real examples... but then the author wrote about trend , pattern, elliot wave , etc and all of those topics received a mediocre treatment , it seems like the rest of the book is there just to fill the pages . That said, the candlestick part it's indeed very good .

This is, in essence, the same information that is being marketed by Trade Wins Publishing in a DVD course for $500! The book is much cheaper, gives all the necessary information and clarifies the mystery of candlesticks. Well worth the money.
