couldn't ask for better

I'm reading the 3 rd edition of this magnificant book that deals with structures built in steel. It begins reviewing shear and moment and mechanics of materials, then moves into steel design, connections, beams, columns and a complete building design chapeter etc. The chapter on computers is oiutdated. It has just enough examples (although I'd like to see more). The text is an relatively easy read. Its boring for the most part. I like this book. I especially like the illustrations. They are clear and interesting. You can't ask for a better book on steel design and buildindg design. I can't enough good things about this excellent book. Best one I've read on steel design. Its worth the price of the new text, especially if you are writing the PE exam.

Good for beginners

Blodgett does a good job on design of steel structures, and software like Staad or FEA do the big assemblies quite well. The need to design structures by hand is obsolete, but some manual checking is still necessary. Some advanced methods explained here are worthwile, such as the method of consistent deformation.

This book provides an excellent complement to Paul's previous book on domestic violence. "Broken Children", reaches deeper into the hearts and minds of those who abuse and the people who find themselves living with abusers. Victims can identify with the helper and rescuer discussions and find motivation for change. Abusers can discover the root of their problems and address the shame vs. guilt thinking that motivates their behavior.

This is another wonderful effort by Dr. Paul Hegstrom that gives answers to some of life's toughest problems.

This is a great read for anyone who is an abuse survivor or someone who lives or works with an abuse victim. It is easy to read and explains so much that other books on this topic don't. It is not full of psycho mumbo jumbo and written in lay mans terms. Highly recommended.

This book of dua's is timely and necessary. I enjoyed the short explanation behind the dua's. There were a few grammar and spelling errors but the material was still readable. I would like to see more books like this with more in-depth history of dua's and explanation of their history as well as Quranic excerpts and explanations. We need more Islamic literature that is not influenced by wahabism or salafism. I personally want to see more from American born convert scholars. Thank you contributing to our community and God willing we will be healthier and stronger for it.

Contradictions everywhere!

Absolutely horrible. So many contradictions. Example: in one of the boxes is says that arculis senilis is cause by calcium deposits around the cornea of the eye, then directly below in a paragraph on the same page it says that it is caused by lipid deposits! If that's not a contradiction, then here's another one I found: In the beginning of one of the chapters it says that most abused elder are caucasian females, then a few pages later it says that the most commonly abused elders are minority females. Unbelievable errors all over this book! One section of the book states that short term memory is relatively stable in the elderly, then in another chapter it states that short term memory begins to decline!! Shall I keep going?!? It says that one of the signs of neglect is malnutrition, then when I took the practice questions provided it said that malnutrition is not a sign of neglect. One of the rationales said that thyroid function is not an indicator of elder abuse, then why was that one of the correct answers in a question about what test should the nurse anticipate when suspecting elder abuse?

I agree with the other 1-star ratings. Pick a different book. Contradictions everywhere. This book contradicts many nursing fundamental principles. The publisher exam questions the instructor used where based on minor detail recall. Lots of information, lot of tables and charts, lot of contradictions. Rationales completely contradict them selves from the 2nd edition chapter review questions for online resources on basic fundamental teachings. Very disappointed in the textbook.

This is it!

I am a blues novice. I played the blues on keyboards for years. I decided to become adventurous, picking up the fiddle a year ago. I am self taught fiddler using an electric fretted violin.

I wanted to play the blues on the fiddle. I bought and went through stacks of books. I even tried to transition from other instruments (guitar and keyboards) to the fiddle. It has been frustrating and I was getting no where fast. I bought this book last week and holy cow I wish I would have bought this one first. I can't put it down.

I'm sure that you have read "Lessons start off in the beginning with some basics and then builds you up fast." Most of the time I find that statement as hype. However, this book delivers. Not only does it gives you the basics of blues on the fiddle but leads you into variations that give you the ability to improvise on the same song.

No mistake on buying this book! If you are going to buy one book on learning to play the blues on a fiddle, this is the book you need to buy.

Learning Fiddle Blues? Get This Book!

I've come across several books on scales for violin, but always had difficulty finding pentatonic scales/arpeggios. After receiving this book, flipping through it for the first time, was thoroughly impressed. I got exactly what I was looking for! Definitely for beginners, and people just looking to advance their violin improv skills. I play in an alt-bluegrass group, and this information is going to improve my skills for the next several years! Comes highly recommended.

Shay to the rescue!

Uncaged by John Sandford & Michelle Cook is the most interesting book I ever read. In the beginning it hooked me and dragged me into the book so unexpectedly that I didn't even have time to think.This book kidnapped me and held me hostage in the book world until my mom came into the room and got me out.

This book got me to the edge of my seat.This book reminded me of an action movie. See, that’s the great thing about books, you get to picture all the settings and characters however you want.I really want someone to make a movie based on this book.That’s how much I love it.

Uncaged is about a red-headed girl named Shay.Shay is the main character in the book.Even though she is only 16,she is very mature and very caring. Shay is looking for her “Raider” brother Odin. She meets a guy named Twist (my favorite character) who is the protagonist in the book because he is very nice to shay and lets her stay at his hotel. She makes friends with everybody at the hotel like Cruz,Cade,and her roommate Emily and they agree to help Shay find her brother. This group goes on many adventures and does many good cause crimes like climbing on the Hollywood sign to find her brother. They release information on a website about these torturing people named Singular, who kidnapped her brother. They threaten Singular by releasing more information about them until they give her Odin back.

Uncaged is an AWESOME book. Also another great thing about it is that it is a series, so it doesn’t end at there. I can’t wait to finish Outrage, and start Rampage. Again Uncaged is such a good book.I TOTALLY recommend reading this book, I promise it won’t let you down.

Not Close to Sandford excellence

I have read every John Sandford book and eagerly wait for the next Davenport or Flowers masterpiece. Unfortunately this one failed to live up to the low standard that the authors set for it. Sandford is at his best in Minnesota and my Western Wisconsin, where, for some reason, most of his most evil criminals come from. Stay at home!

I made a MISTAKE.

NO! Sorry, because I usually love John Sandford's novels. I read all his work and along with Michael Connelly they are the two most prolific writers of this genre. That said, this book is a big fat flop. The novel seems aimed at a "younger" crowd, and if I didn't know better, I'd think it was a spinoff of "The Hunger Games" or those stupid "vampire" teeny pieces of junk.

This novel pits a huge company with vast resources (money and para-military), against determined homeless teens and animal rights activists.
Without giving away the plot (don't worry , there isn't much to give away!), the company does horrific experiments on all sorts of animals, supposedly for medical research, but what are they really DOING!!! That's about it. Don't worry, our intrepid teens will win the day. OH WAIT, this novel is just the FIRST one of a series!! That's right, nothing gets resolved so they can sell another of these clunkers--NOT TO ME!!

I couldn't wait to get to the end of this mess, and I won't read another collaboration with these two ever again. It's your choice, but if you're expecting primo Sandford, you'll be dissappointed as I was.
