Another Excellent book by Eric Franklin

I have all of his books, even Conditioning for Dance even though I have never done any sort of organized dance in my life. Although his books might seem a little superficial at first glance, you will soon realize that Franklin knows far more about the how the body moves than you could ever imagine. Eric Franklin is so far ahead of other "fitness gurus" that there is no comparison. He truly understands how paying more attention to your posture and movement can dramatically affect your whole life. You'll never really get rid of that tension headache or that pain in the neck unless you start listening to what your body is trying to tell you.

A summary of the Franklin Method in one great book

Inner Focus, Outer Strength is sort of like a crash course in the Franklin Method, covering posture, breath, muscles, organs and daily life with thorough, fun exercises. The organ chapter is especially valuable, detailing how important the organs are for overall muscle and postural alignment, as well as energy levels. I think this book would make a great introduction to the full body, Franklin Method style, before getting his other books. I highly recommend this book, especially paired with Pelvic Power and his mini books on the psoas, fascia and feet.

By integrating the case of Sudan with material on other countries, particularly India, Sharkey gives her book broad comparative appeal. She shows that colonial legacies—such as inflexible borders, atomized multi-ethnic populations, and autocratic governing structures—have persisted, hobbling postcolonial nation-states. Thus countries like Sudan are still living with colonialism, struggling to achieve consensus and stability within borders that a fallen empire has left behind.

Powerful insights into an elites failure of imagination

An eye opening book. Details how the British ruled the colonial Sudan by helping create and educated, at the Gordon Memorial College (present day University of Khartoum), a technocratic class of lower level clerks and minor civil servants. This literate class collaborated with the Empire in ways that allowed a handful of British bureaucrats to rule the vast area of Sudan. But in many ways there was ambivalence and suspicion of each others motives, and feelings of frustrated ambition on the side of the Sudanese. The British used their own racial and imperial prejudices in selecting Arabic speaking groups and families to draw into this class and excluded Southerners and others they termed "detribalized blacks". In doing so they influencing the class's ideas of itself and their environment, and shaped their very narrow vision of the future post colonial nation. A national vision that proved to be as elitist, statist and unable to incorporate the reality of a diverse and complex Sudan. It is this central lack of vision that lies at the heart of the Sudan's failure to build an inclusive nation. It is a sad commentary that the same elite still sees itself as a conduit for propagating western civilization, in the form of such alien ideologies as "secularism", to an essentially savage nation.

As a product of this class I am amazed to realize just how narrow this class has remained. Again and again I recognized the actors in this book as being the grandparents of my colleges and friends. In the mid-eighties my educated parents convinced me to withdraw from an English university and return to matriculate at The University of Khartoum. It has been one of the most profound decisions I have ever made.

Ten-year-old boy loved it and learned a lot

I handed this to my ten-year-old grandson today during a short car ride. When we arrived at our destination, he brought the book inside with him and continued to read it with great attention (including the non-comic fact sections) all the way to the end. Volume 1 is about the digestive system, so being a kid he especially enjoyed the bathroom humor, but he also was very interested in learning how everything worked. Highly recommended. The story is not completely resolved in volume 1--we just ordered volumes 2 and 3.

He won't put it down!!!!

Wow!!! I actually bought this to put until we finished our current series and my son has been reading it every free second of the day. He even chose it on his free time when he could have gotten on his tablet. I have a feeling he will finish it before going to bed tonight. He wanted me to hurry up and order the next one. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime. I don't want to dampen his love of reading.

I especially responded to the case studies examined in every section, they drive home and expand on the information gathered in the chapter by matching it to a relevant company; the focus on Topshop was my favorite. I can speak for myself and say this book will be an important reference guide in my ongoing journey though fashion. The bottom line is, Concept To Customer is a fast read that contains a goldmine of information for a novice and holds important considerations for the professional.'
